Wolf Tooth Waveform Pedal (Small): Specs, Sizing and Setup

Updated · Spec review from manufacturer data

Quick take

The Wolf Tooth Waveform pedal in small is a thin, concave aluminum flat: 105 x 99 mm, 14 mm at the edges and 12.5 mm in the centre, with 11 stainless pins per side on a stainless steel axle. It is a premium pick for riders with smaller feet who want a low-profile flat without a big platform. Riders with standard or large feet should go for the large (112 x 106 mm).

Pros and cons

Pros

  • Thin 14–12.5 mm concave body
  • Light: 373 g per pair for the small
  • Stainless steel axle with three bearings and an igus bushing
  • 11 rear-loading pins per side, with 6 spares in the box
  • Two sizes, so smaller feet are not stuck with a big platform

Cons

  • Small platform is too narrow for most standard-size adult shoes
  • Thin, shallow concave gives less dish than thicker pedals
  • Premium price tier

What the Waveform pedal is

The Waveform is Wolf Tooth Components’ aluminum flat pedal, made in two sizes. This page covers the small: a 105 x 99 mm platform for riders with smaller feet.

The body is 6061-T6 aluminum on a 17-4 PH stainless steel axle, turning on three bearings plus an igus bushing. Each side gets 11 rear-loading stainless pins.

The Waveform concept: a shaped, variable-thickness body

The Waveform is not a flat slab. Its body is 14 mm thick at the outer edges and 12.5 mm in the centre, so the shoe sits in a shallow dish while the pedal stays thin overall.

That 1.5 mm of concave is subtle compared with pedals that run 16 mm at the edges. The thin build keeps your foot close to the axle, which tends to feel stable underfoot, and gives more clearance over rocks than a thick pedal.

Waveform pedal sizing: small vs large

Wolf Tooth launched the sizes to suit standard and smaller-footed riders. The bodies share the same thickness, pins and internals; only the footprint and weight change.

Waveform size Platform Weight (pair) Suits
Small 105 x 99 mm 373 g Smaller feet
Large 112 x 106 mm 384 g Standard and larger feet

Wolf Tooth does not tie the sizes to a published shoe-size chart in the specs we could confirm. If you sit between sizes or wear wide flat shoes, the large is the safer pick: it costs only 11 g a pair.

For a size-by-shoe chart, the Crankbrothers Stamp 2 and Spank Spoon 100 both publish one.

Spindle, bearings and pins

Spindle. 17-4 PH stainless steel resists corrosion better than plain chromoly, a plus for wet-weather riders.

Bearings. Three bearings plus an igus bushing spread the load along the axle, a layout shared with other premium flats such as the Hope F22.

Pins. 11 stainless steel pins per side stand 4.5 mm tall and load from the back. Remove inner pins with a 3 mm hex key if you want easier foot repositioning. Our pedal pins guide explains pin layouts.

Setup and fit notes

  • Thread: 9/16” x 20 TPI. Check kids’ and vintage bikes before buying.
  • Left pedal: reverse-threaded; see which pedal is reverse threaded.
  • Grease: use a thin layer of grease on the threads.
  • Kids’ bikes: for a junior BMX race bike, a junior-specific pedal like the AnswerBMX MPH Jr is the more typical choice.

More options sit in our flat pedal guide and on the Wolf Tooth brand page.

Care and wear

Swap bent or snapped pins with the spares in the box; rear-loading pins are easier to extract after a strike. If the pedal develops play, service the bearings and bushing rather than replacing the pair.
