What the Wellgo W8 is
The W8 is a pair of pedal straps from Wellgo, the Taiwanese pedal maker, designed for platform pedals rather than toe clips. Each strap is a wide double band over the top of the foot, closed with Velcro and covered in polyester.
Retailers describe it as a double-hold strap system. The wide band covers more of the forefoot than one narrow toe strap, which spreads pressure and holds sneakers without the pinch of a traditional clip and strap.
It is aimed at fixed-gear, single-speed and urban riders who ride in ordinary shoes and want their feet to stay put through skids, bumps and quick accelerations.
How double straps hold your foot
A double strap wraps more of your foot than a single toe strap. The wide band sits across the forefoot, and the Velcro lets you set the tension for the shoes you are wearing that day.
- Getting in: with the strap set slightly loose, flip the pedal strap-side up with your toe and slide your foot forward under the bands.
- Riding: your foot can pull up on the backstroke and will not bounce off over rough surfaces.
- Getting out: pull your foot straight back. Set the tension loose enough that this is easy before riding in traffic.
Unlike Power Grips, the W8 does not tighten or release with foot angle. Its tension stays where you set it.
Fitting and setup notes
Check your pedals before buying. Platform straps need somewhere to anchor: openings through the pedal body, or edges the strap can wrap around without rubbing the crank arm.
- Hold the strap against your pedal and check that both ends can anchor securely on the outside and inside.
- Fit the straps so the Velcro closure is on top or outside, where you can reach it.
- Put on your usual riding shoes and set the tension so you can slide in and pull straight back without forcing it.
- Ride a short loop and adjust. Tight for fast fixed-gear riding, looser for stop-start city traffic.
- Recheck after the first few rides, as new Velcro and straps settle.
If your pedal is a metal cage pedal that accepts toe clips, you have more choice: Power Grips, or classic clips and straps such as the EVO nylon toe clip straps. If you have a modern flat like the MKS Allways, which retailers list as compatible with Velcro-style straps, the W8 type of strap is the natural match.
How it compares
| Wellgo W8 | Power Grips | Toe clip and strap | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pedal needed | Platform with anchor points | Metal cage pedal | Pedal with clip holes |
| Tension | Set with Velcro | Self-tightening with foot angle | Set with buckle |
| Exit | Pull back | Roll heel out | Loosen, pull back |
| Best for | Fixed gear, urban | Commuting | Classic, touring, track |
Care and wear
Velcro is the wear item. Clear lint and grit from the hooks with a stiff brush every few weeks, because clogged Velcro holds less. Wash the straps by hand in mild soapy water when they get grimy and let them dry naturally. Replace them when the closure no longer holds under hard pedaling.

Wellgo W8 Double Straps: FAQ
Are Wellgo W8 straps still available?
They are hard to find in late 2026, with several retailers listing them as unavailable. Power Grips and Restrap make current straps that do a similar job.
Will Wellgo straps fit my pedals?
Retailers describe the W8 as fitting most platform pedals. Check that your pedal has openings or an edge where the strap ends can anchor without rubbing the crank.
Are pedal straps better than toe clips?
Straps are easier to get in and out of and need no clip holes; toe clips with a tight strap hold more firmly. See toe clips and straps for a full comparison.
