DMR V8 Classic DU Pedals (9/16", Polished Silver)

Updated · Spec review from manufacturer data

Quick take

Buy the V8 Classic DU if you want the original DMR V8 look on a tough, cheap-to-service alloy platform for a commuter, retro MTB or BMX build. It's still listed by DMR, now on dual DU bushings. For modern trail or enduro riding, the current DMR V8 V2 (bigger 95 x 100 mm platform, 10 tuneable pins per side) or the Vault V2 is the better DMR.

What the DMR V8 Classic DU is

The V8 Classic DU is DMR’s reissue of its original V8 flat pedal, the shape DMR has sold for the best part of 30 years. It keeps the old-school profile: a 90 x 94 mm die-cast aluminum body, 20 mm deep, on a CroMo axle with a 9/16” thread.

The “DU” in the name is the update: the reborn Classic runs on dual DU bushings, which retailers describe as smoother and longer-lasting than the older internals. Some listings still describe cone bearings, so check the listing says DU if you want this version.

Grip comes from 10 pins per side. Four are removable corner pins you can tune or replace; the other six are cast into the body. DMR lists the pair at 520 g.

What is PD2135?

PD2135 is an item code for this pedal, not a DMR model name. A US retailer lists the silver, 9/16” V-8 Classic DU under the SKU B-PD2135; DMR’s own site doesn’t use the code.

If you found PD2135 on an old invoice, parts list or bike spec, the pedal you want is the DMR V8 Classic DU in silver. Search by that model name when buying a replacement or spares, because the code won’t appear on DMR’s product or spares pages.

V8 Classic DU vs DMR V8 V2

The V8 V2 is DMR’s current mainstream V8, and it’s the better choice for most modern mountain biking. The Classic is for riders who want the original look.

V8 Classic DU V8 V2
Platform 90 x 94 mm 95 x 100 mm
Pins per side 10 (4 replaceable + 6 cast) 10 tuneable
Internals Dual DU bushings Dual DU bushings
Axle CroMo, 9/16” 4140 CrMo, 9/16”
Weight (pair) 520 g 480 g
Body Die-cast aluminum Die-cast aluminum

The V2’s larger platform and fully replaceable pins give more grip and more room for bigger shoes. The Classic’s advantages are its look and its smaller footprint on compact or retro bikes. For DMR’s premium flat, see the Vault V2 in our flat pedals guide.

Setup and fit notes

  • Thread: 9/16” x 20 TPI, so it fits two- and three-piece cranks on adult MTB, BMX, hybrid and road bikes. It won’t fit 1/2” one-piece cranks.
  • Left pedal is reverse-threaded: it tightens anticlockwise. Grease both threads and start by hand (which pedal is reverse threaded).
  • Tools: use a pedal wrench or hex key to suit the axle (pedal tools).
  • Shoes: with only four replaceable pins per side, grip depends on the sole. Soft, flat-soled shoes work best; hard dress-shoe soles slide.
  • Pins: set the corner pins to the same height on both pedals. See our pedal pins guide for removing stubborn pins.

Care and wear

Worn DU bushings show up as side-to-side play in the body. When that appears, rebuild with DMR’s V8 Classic service kit rather than riding on, because a loose body wears the axle. DMR’s V2 end caps don’t fit the Classic, so order Classic-specific parts.

The polished silver finish hides scrapes better than colored pedals. Use fresh grease at each service, and see DMR for other models.

Alternatives to consider

DMR V8 Classic DU Pedals, 9/16", Silver: FAQ

What is PD2135?

PD2135 is an item code, not a DMR model name. A US retailer lists this exact pedal, the DMR V-8 Classic DU in silver with 9/16" threads, under SKU B-PD2135. DMR's own site doesn't use it, so search by model name when buying spares.

Is the DMR V8 Classic discontinued?

No. DMR still lists the V8 Classic, describing it as the original V8 shape reborn, now with dual DU bushings. A few retailers show older listings as unavailable, but the model is current.

What's the difference between the DMR V8 Classic and V8 V2?

The V8 V2 has a bigger 95 x 100 mm platform, 10 tuneable pins per side and weighs 480 g per pair. The Classic keeps the old 90 x 94 mm shape, 20 mm deep, with 4 replaceable and 6 cast-in pins per side, at 520 g per pair.

What does DU mean on DMR pedals?

DU refers to the DU bushing: a steel-backed plain bearing with a low-friction PTFE lining. The V8 Classic DU runs on two of them instead of ball bearings, which keeps the internals simple and easy to service.

Do DMR V8 V2 parts fit the V8 Classic?

Not all of them: DMR says its V2 end caps are not compatible with the V8 Classic. Use DMR's V8 Classic spares for service kits and axles.
